Abstract: MOJICA, MICHAEL J. Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping of Coffee Growing Areas in Selected Barangays of Amadeo, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Cavite University, Indang, Cavite. April 2005. Adviser: Prof. Beng P. Umali. This study was conducted to develop a geographic information system (GIS) based atlas of coffee growing areas in selected barangays of Amadeo; survey and identify areas planted to coffee utilizing the Global Positioning System (GPS) and interview questionnaire; develop a digital map of different areas that are planted to coffee employing ArcView GIS software; and develop a baseline information of the coffee growing areas of Cavite in digital map Image and tabular format. The study is an initial undertaking to create baseline information for the proper assessment and management of coffee for the province of Cavite. Sixteen farms located in Amadeo, Cavite were selected for the study. Each farm was surveyed and identified. Global Positioning System (GPS) was used to determine the spatial coordinates of the farms and also the approximate land area of the farm. Interviews were also done. The result showed that almost all farms were owned by the coffee farmers. The areas planted to coffee and the productions of coffee were decreasing because of lack of proper management, low cost of coffee beans, high cost of fertilizer and other problems in the farm. Elevation, slope, aspect and soil maps in digital format were developed for Amadeo, Cavite.
