Abstract: AMBION, MARVIN C. APRIL 2007. Self-Concept and Academic Performance of Selected Fourth Year High School Students of Amadeo West Cavite Instituto de Le Mar and Amadeo National High School, Adviser: Mrs. Catherine D. Derige The study was conducted to find out significant relationship of self-concept to the academic performance of selected senior students of Amadeo West Cavite Instituto de Le Mar and Amadeo National High School. It aimed to (a) determine the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of their age and gender; (b) determine the level of self-concept of the respondents based on the Self-Concept Scale; (c) determine the academic performance of the respondents in terms of their Grade Point Average; (d) determine the relationship between the self-concept and academic performance of the respondents; and (e) determine if there is a significant difference the: (1) levels of self-concept; and (2) academic performance of the respondents. The study was conducted in December 2006, which focused mainly on the self-concept and academic performance of senior students of Amadeo West Cavite Instituto de Le Mar and Amadeo National High School, SY 2006-2007. Seventy students from the two schools comprised the total respondents. The total number of samples was composed of sixty-two males and seventy-eight females. Majority of the respondents are already at the adolescence stage falling on the age of sixteen and above. The Self-Concept Scale was used to determine the levels of self-concept of the respondents. It revealed that the respondents have an above average level of self-concept indicating that they already have a more stable sense of self-concept yet they still have some tendencies to experience negative feelings about themselves. Their averages during the first and second grading period correspond to their academic performance. It was found out that the total samples have a satisfactory academic performance. Results revealed that there is no significant relationship between the self-concept and academic performance of the respondents from Amadeo West Cavite Institute de Le Mar. on the other hand, significant yet negative correlation was found out between the self-concept and academic performance of the respondents from Amadeo National High School. There also a significant difference found between the respective levels of self-concept of the two groups of respondents. Their academic performances were the same regardless of the school they are into.
