The study entitled “The Influence of Home Environment to the Personality Traits of Highschool Students of Luksuhin National High School" was conducted at selected schools of Luksuhin National Highschool at Luksuhin Alfonso, Cavite from November to January 2006. The study aimed to: I) determine the profiles of the respondents in terms of age, gender, educational attainment of parents, marital status of parents, and occupation of parents, place of work of parents, income level of the family, average time spent with the family and family size. 2) determine the nature of home environment that the adolescent respondents experience in terms of parental involvement and parenting styles or child-rearing practices 3) identify the personality traits of respondents attributed to home environments 4) determine the parenting style that have influenced in the personality traits of the student in terms of authoritarian, Authoritative and permissive and 5) to determine the significant influence of home environment to the personality traits of high school students of Luksuhin National high school. Since the study as about influence of home environment to the personality traits of highschool students of Luksuhin National highschool, descriptive method is best suited to it. It can measure what already exists in order to test hypothesis and to answer questions concerning the current status of the subject of the study. A total of 273 served as respondents from all year levels; 75 from first year levels; 77 from second year, 63 from third year and 58 from fourth year. This was limited to the profile of the respondents in terms of their home environment, the segment of home environment: the parental involvement and the parenting styles or the child rearing practices and the selected personality traits. Based on the findings, the age of most of the respondents range from 14 to 15years and most of them were female. Furthermore, majority of the respondent's parent's educational attainment were High school graduate. The marital status of the parents was mostly married which means that respondents are living together with their parents. In the factor of the family income, it only shows that most of them have an income of below ten thousand pesos (P10 000) while others are working in their hometown, where some work as store assistant, vendor, farmer care taker etc. As for the family size, most of the respondent's family has 5 to 6 members while for the average time spent together with the family, most of them has a long, hour of time with the family for about 8 hours above. Based on the findings, the researcher concludes that all features of the home environment exert influence on the personality of the students. It is resulted that Authoritative parenting style is the most child rearing practice employed by the parents to their children in their homes. It was supported that parental involvement and child rearing practices of the parents of the respondents has significant effect of exerting influence of home environment to the personality traits of high school students of Luksuhin National high school. Added to these, as the growing adolescents need parental guidance in developing his individuality, parental influence would either bring consequences like enhancement to his/her inner resources or creating damages which are often subtle that parents may not be aware of the effects in respect to their parenting styles which describes the difference I the warmth and discipline used by parents to raise their children. The family types differ in their standards, the way in which their values are expressed to the children, and in parental expectations of how their children should behave. Furthermore, it is not only patterns of parenting styles but also characteristics of children reared by these parents. Parent's approaches to child rearing have important implications in terms of the degree of autonomy and responsible social behavior exhibited by children Authoritarian parenting is associated with children who are unhappy, socially withdrawn, distrustful and moody. In addition they tend to be lack spontaneity and be overly dependent on adults for directions and decision-making. The children are more likely to be rejected by their peers and stiffer also low self-esteem. They may either remain very dependent or may go in the other direction and become very rebellious, especially if the parents are unreasonably restrictive of the adolescent's autonomy and rely on coercive methods of control rather than rational methods such as initiation. In contrast, the children of authoritative parents in comparison to other were found to be more self-reliant, self-controlled, content and explorative. They were also energetic, friendly, curious and cooperative. They got along well peers and exhibited high self-esteem. Furthermore, the children exhibit more mature moral judgments and were better able to control their own aggressive impulses and channel them into more appropriate, pre social behaviors. They are less likely to become involved in drug abuse or other deviant behavior and are more likely to resist environment pressures successfully. Finally, parents who rely on a permissive style of child-rearing tend to have children who are immature, lacking in impulse control, less exploratory, more dependent and aggressive. When these children become adolescents, they tend to over-conform to the pressures of environment because there is very little pressure at home to conform to parent's values and expectations. Those adolescents who have parents low in both demanding ness and responsiveness are more likely to become engaged in delinquent behavior as well as early experimentation with tempting environment such as alcohol, drugs and sex
