ABALOS, KATRINA A. Housing Needs of Local Government Employees In Selected Upland Towns of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics major in Development Economics. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. October 2006. Adviser: Dr. Maria A. Ersando.
A study was conducted among local government employees in Upland Cavite to describe their personal and economic characteristics; to determine their present need for housing; determine the current status in relation to their house occupancy or ownership; determine the proportion of those who: have houses of their own, those who are still working to own a house and those who wish to acquire additional housing units; identify the ways by which the respondents presently satisfy their needs for housing; determine the proportion of the respondents who have availed or were benefited by the housing programs of the government; and lastly, identify the common problems encountered by the respondents in relation to housing.
Purposive sampling was used in this study. A total number of 202 local government employees were chosen from seven (7) upland towns of Cavite. Results of the study revealed that most of the local government employees in upland towns of Cavite fall under the age bracket of 41 to 50 years old. Majority were female and were BS degree holders. Most of them have been in the government service for an average of 29 years, and have the tendency to be involved in the government service until they retire.
Majority of the respondents received a monthly gross income ranging from Php 6,000 to Php 10,000. The monthly net income of the respondents were mostly from Php 1,000 to Php 5,000 a month. Most of the respondents have their own houses while some respondents reported they do not have houses of their own. Majority has only one house. Most of the houses of the respondents were located within the town. Others were located within the nearby towns.
Most of the house owners acquired their houses by using their savings. Others acquired their houses either through GSIS loans, PAG-IBIG housing programs, or from loans acquired from private and government lending institutions. The problems encountered by the respondents who have houses of their own in relation to housing were insufficient money to finance house repairs/ improvements and inadequate space to facilitate comfortable living. On the other hand, the main problem of the respondents who do not have houses of their own was financial incapability to buy a house. Other problems encountered by non-house owners were poor house facilities and inadequacy of space in the house which they currently occupy.
