Abstract: AREVALO, ANDY M. and GOMEZ, CHARLIE JAMES F. Gender-based Differentiation among Police Officers in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2017. Prepared under the supervision of Engr. Willie C. Buclatin. Police officers play a central role in the law enforcement system. They are the persons who protect the public, make sure that people obey the law and make people feel safe. Not all police officers wear a uniform and patrol. Some police officers have specialist jobs, such as being a detective, a traffic officer or a dog handler. They monitor criminal activity, take part in community patrols, respond to emergency calls, issue tickets, make arrests, investigate crimes and testify in court as needed. The researchers' main purpose in this study was to analyze a gender-based differentiation among police officers in five municipalities, HQS Cavite, Cavite Tourist Police Unit, Silang MPS, Dasmaririas CCPS and Bacoor CCPS, which has the most number of female in Cavite. The researchers utilized the descriptive method using the standard survey questionnaire from Gender and Development. These were distributed to 188 Police Officers, which consists of 94 males and 94 females. The percentages, weighted mean, median, mode and standard deviation were computed for the profile of the respondents in terms of personal characteristics (age, civil status, gender, educational attainment, rank, and number of years in service. In selecting the respondents, convenience sampling technique was used. Results of the study showed that reproductive activities are primarily/usually done by mother and sometimes done by the father. Second, productive activities are usually done by male and sometimes done by male. Third, community activities are primarily/usually done by father and sometimes done by father also. Fourth, leisure activities are done by male. Fifth, male has more access and control in terms of reproductive resources and productive resources. Also, male has more access to benefits but the female has more control to benefits than the male. Lastly, the mother or female is more involved in decision-making in terms of reproductive, productive, community managing and in the leisure activities based on the results of the frequency distribution. Based on the findings, the following conclusion was derived: summing up all of the activities, it shows that male is the most productive in every activity but the decision makers were female, which is the mother. Based on the conclusion, the following were recommended: Each municipality police stations may conduct related studies that would focus on gender-based differentiation among police officers in Cavite. This would not only uphold gender sensitivity and gender awareness in the workplace but would help for a better working environment for police officers; Police officers should not always stick to what is in the result of gender-based differentiation. Results of gender-based differentiation are guides to show the most common associated gender toward every productive activity. Police officers should always practice flexibility to promote self-growth and fulfilment.
