MENDOZA, JENNINA L. and VEGA, BLESSED JOY A. The Code Runner: An Endless Running and Code Building Android Game Application. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2017. Adviser: Ms. Ezra Marie F. Ramos.
The study was conducted from March 2016 to April 2016 at Cavite State University - Main Campus to develop an application that is an edutainment game which can help students in their introductory programming courses using android mobile phone. Specifically, it aimed to 1. develop a useful educational game for students interested in programming; 2. make an application with appropriate functions and features; 3. create a game that can provide enjoyment while learning using android phone; 4. create a game which is helpful for introductory programming courses; 5. make the game more interactive, fun and educational through code building feature; and 6. create handy educational material. Randomized Algorithm was used in the study for randomizing the objects in the game. Another algorithm was used, the Pattern Matching which was used for checking the answer of player in the Code Building Part. Spiral Model Methodology was used as the methodology of the system. A total of 110 participants evaluated the system, 100 students of Computer Science and Information Technology and 10 IT experts of Cavite State University. The results were collected through a survey questionnaire. Different software were used in the study: 1. Unity3d was used to create the game together with the C# scripting; 2. Blender for creating the avatar player; and 3. Photoshop for designing the images and syntax used in the game. According to the overall evaluation, results with an average mean of 4.67, the system was judged to be excellent in all aspects such as functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, and maintainability. As a conclusion, the Code Runner can act as a medium to enjoy basic programming by adding entertainment while learning with the use of android phone. The game can be used as an educational game or material for students who are interested in programming. The player can also review the lessons taught inside the classroom through the game. Upon the completion of the study the researchers concluded that the Code Runner can help students in reviewing their programming subjects and have fun at the same time.
