Summary: "This textbook is a product of the authors’ more than a decade of experience in teaching the subject matter Institutional Correction in various Criminology Schools and Review Centers in the Philippines. In the preparation of this piece, the authors’ primarily considered the scope provided by the CHED Memorandum Order 21 Series of 2005 and the PRC Memorandum Circular No.1 Series of 2010. The author also attended and actively participate the PRC Board of Criminology and the Professional Criminology Association of the Philippines 1st National Convention in Manila on August 19-21, 2015 to incorporate in this material the proposed revision in the syllabi of Correction Administration which is among the areas subject of the Licensure Examination for Criminologists. The controversies regarding the luxurious living of high profile Drug Lords in New Bilibid Prison under the Bureau of Correction and alleged sub-human conditions and overcrowding of inmates in jails are among the contemporary issues regarding institutional correction. Because of these, the author had found a compelling reason to include the United Nation Standard Minimum for the Treatment of Prisoners to assess the Philippines compliance with these minimum rules of the United Nations. Latest legislations relating to Correction in the Philippines are also discussed such as the republic Act No. 10575 otherwise known as the Bureau of Correction Act of 2013 and the law on Preventive Imprisonment and Good Conduct Time Allowance under Republic Act No. 10592. The provisions under Revised penal Code for Penal Provisions on Correction are also emphasized. An outcome-based approach was also adopted by providing review exercises at the end of each chapter. Such exercises are composed of identification, true or false and thought provoking essays to determine whether the students recall and understand the principles of the topic discussed."--Preface of the book.
