Abstract: PALACIO, GENARO V. Backyard Hog Fattening: An Entrepreneurial Development Project. Bachelor in Agricultural Entrepreneurship major in Animal Production. Cavite state University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018. Adviser: Dr. Irvin Matel. The project was conducted in Calumpang Cerca, Indang, Cavite from December 15, 2017 to March 13, 2018. The project aimed to expand the knowledge and skills in swine production in terms of actual management of a swine production project and to decide the profitability of raising swine. The swine production project used four piglets that was bought at a local backyard swine raiser in Silang, Cavite. The average weight of the piglets was 18.5 kg. The feeds were purchased from CAFFMACO at Silang, Cavite. They were fed ad libitum until they reach the weight of 50 kg, then they undergone restricted feeding till market. For one month and four days, the piglets consumed 4 sacks of CAFFMACO starter pellet which amounted to P5,220.00, they also consumed 3 sacks of CAFFMACO grower pellet which amounted to P3,690.00, 5 sacks of CAFFMACO special ration which totals to five sacks with a value of P5,900.00, and 2 sacks of BMEG premium grower which amounted to P 2,730.00. After 89 days, the hogs weighed an average live weight of 73.95 kg, with an average daily gain of 623 grams. The pigs consumed an average of 183 kg of feeds per head, giving a feed conversion ratio of 2.53. The total expenses insurred in the hog raising project amounted to P 37,183.00. The entrepreneurial development project gained a net profit of P327.00. The project specifically aimed to: (1) gain additional information in managing swine production; (2) identify the different problems and apply possible solutions related to swine production; (3) acquire practical and managerial skills in swine production; and (4) earn profit thru production.
