Abstract: AMBATA, MARLA PAULINE A., MURAO, MEG ALEC DIANNE F. and OLEGARIO, ANGELO THOMAS G. Effects of Authorized Increase in Base Pay to the Financial Contingency Practices of Philippine National Police Personnel in the 5" District of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Financial Management. Cavite State University — Indang, Cavite. May 2019. Adviser: Mr. Gener T. Cueno. A study on the effects of authorized increase in base pay to the financial contingency practices of Philippine National Police personnel in the 5" district of Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to describe the characteristics of PNP personnel: determine the financial contingency practices of PNP personnel; determine the effects of authorized increase in base pay to the financial contingency practices: ascertain the significant difference on the effects of authorized increase in base pay to the financial contingency practices based on their characteristics. The study was conducted in two municipalities in Cavite namely Carmona and Silang. A total of 159 respondents were included in the study. Data gathered were obtained through the use of questionnaire and personal interview with the participants and through secondary data which provided the other information needed by the researchers from January to May 2019. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution, ranges, means, and percentages. On the other hand, in order to determine if there is a significant difference on the effects of authorized increase in base pay to the financial contingency practices based on their characteristics, the researchers used T-test, ANOVA, and Turkey’s HSD. The results revealed that majority of the PNP personnel were male, married, all of them were college graduate and ranked as Police Officer: the mean age and number of years in the service of PNP personnel was 35 and 10.42. When it comes to the general household information, results show that the single family was the major type of household, with the mean of 2 dependents and 60 percent of them owned their respective housing unit and lot. Results show that the highest income range with 37 percent was from P 16,000 to P 20,000 before the salary increase and P 20,000 to P 32,000 was the highest range after the authorized increase in their base pay. The results show that the police personnel occasionally practice the nine given financial emergency behaviors before the salary increase. The study also showed that there is a positive effect in a moderate level on the financial emergency behaviors. Also with emergency funds, the mean for the monthly savings for emergency funds was ninety four percent. Finally, the results indicated that there is significant difference on the effects of authorized increase in base pay based on characteristics when grouped according to age and type of household only and the rest of the characteristics had no significant difference.
