Escano Diesel engine is any internal-combustion engine in which air is compressed to a sufficiently high temperature to ignite diesel fuel injected into the cylinder, where combustion and expansion actuate a piston. It converts the chemical energy stored in the fuel into mechanical energy, which can be used to power freight trucks, large tractors, locomotives, and marine vessels. A limited number of automobiles also are diesel-powered, as are some electric- power generator sets. The diesel engine gains its energy by burning fuel injected or sprayed into the compressed, hot air charge within the cylinder. The air must be heated to a temperature greater than the temperature at which the injected fuel can ignite. Fuel sprayed into air that has a temperature higher than the "auto-ignition" temperature of the fuel spontaneously reacts with the oxygen in the air and burns. However, at engine start-up, supplemental heating of the cylinders is sometimes employed, since the temperature of the air within the cylinders is determined by both the engine's compression ratio and its current operating temperature. The general objective of the study is to enable learners to have idea and learn more about how the diesel engine operates mechanically compare to the EFI diesel engines nowadays. The construction, improvement and development of the existing 0240 diesel engine trainer will form part on the enhancement of skills of the learners, particularly on diesel engines. The particular engine can be used by the incoming students to practice their skills before taking Automotive Servicing NC l because diesel engine set up timing gear marks and tune-up servicing is one of the Core Competencies given by TESDA. The original frame measured 54"x 31"x 24". It is made up of 3"x 3" angular bar reinforced with a base holder on the four corners of the frame and 2" G.I pipe with metal skid wheels to make the trainer mobile in the Automotive Section working area. The existing trainer measured 67"x 31"x 24" so that the existing trainer is modified into the one original frame measurement. There is no base frame for the battery, so the trainer has additional angular bars for the battery and also for the new acrylic glass. This was welded and painted with acrylic blue for similarity with other trainer's inside the shop. Repairs were carried to enhance its performance and design. The engine was overhauled and parts such as valve seal, piston ring, starter, gaskets, oil seals, oil pan gasket, oil pump, and water pump were replaced to fully satisfy the engine performance. The design project improved the physical appearance of the Isuzu C240 diesel engine trainer, and at the same time, installed advanced features of fuel and electrical system which was considered to be have a big contribution on the addition diesel engine trainers. The added features of fuel system clearly identified flow of the diesel fuel, and the electrical system was systematically arranged to lessen the hardship of the learners. The improved project proved to be very useful and effective for the Automotive students providing knowledge about diesel engine principles and components. The improvement of the trainer will help the instructors and students with the smooth preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and different minor overhauling procedures. It will open new opportunities for students in enhancing their skills in diesel engine to be conducted during actual hands-on activities. The students and faculty evaluators gave a high and even positive degree of level. This showed a significant result and that the design project trainer was acceptable.
