DE DIOS, MARIEL M. and HANDUGAN, KEENAN IVY B. Development of a Vehicle
Speed Monitoring System for Cavite State University. Undergraduate Design Project.
Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering. Cavite State
University, Indang, Cavite. June 2019. Adviser: Engr. Michael T. Costa.
The study was conducted to develop a vehicle speed monitoring system for Cavite State
University. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) construct the sensing unit; (2) construct the systems
network; (3) develop a system software; (4) develop an application software; (5) apply the
monitoring system; (6) test and evaluate the wired connection and the efficiency and accuracy
of monitoring system by comparing the speed of the vehicle through its speedometer to the data
printed at the client; and (7) determine the cost of the design.
The study was composed of two main operations: (1) the monitoring system unit which
was responsible for monitoring the speed of vehicles that passed the unit; and (2) the wired
network for transferring the data to the client. The design project comprised of Raspberry Pi,
Raspberry Pi cam, HB100 sensor, and USB ADC powered by 5V 2A power supply connected to
220V AC supply. The design project was tested and evaluated for its efficiency and
performance, functionality, accuracy of the data transmission, and user acceptance of the
system and its wired network.
The evaluation was conducted on the path way in front of the Science High School,
Cavite State University-Main Campus, Indang, Cavite. According to the data gathered,
observations, and results, the vehicle speed monitoring system for Cavite State University has
met the desired objectives. The monitoring system was found effective and convenient to the
people who used it. The total cost of the project was P 11,814.
