Online resources: Abstract: MAGPANTAY, REINA M. Evaluation of Selected Botanicals Against Coffee Scale (Coccus viridis Green). Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Sciance in Agriculture Major in Crop Protection. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2006. Adviser: Dr. Evelyn 0. Singson. Two experiments were conducted at the Crop Protection Laboratory of the Department of Crop Science from April to May 2006 to evaluate the efficacy of selected botanical pesticides against scale insect of coffee and determine the most effective concentration of the most effective botanical pesticide evaluated. Both experiments were laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first experiment had the following treatments: wild sunflower leaves, tobacco leaves, "makabuhay" vine, neem seed and Sevin 80. Each treatment was replicated five times. The second experiment utilized six different concentrations of the most effective botanical extracts with three replications. Neem seed extract was the most effective among the botanical plants evaluated. This was followed by wild sunflower, tobacco and "makabuhay" in descending order. Sevin 80WP was superior over control and botanicals. Both exhibited a strong pesticidal action. Coffee scale treated with different concentrations of neem seed extract showed that the 10 percent concentration is already effective against coffee scale 48 hours after treatment. However, with higher concentration of neem seed extract, there is a greater mortality and quicker effect.
