Escobar The study was conducted to evaluate the grain quality of milled rice sold in the municipalities of Indang, Naic and Mendez. This study primarily aimed to provide awareness for the consumers about the quality of milled rice sold in different public markets. The study specifically aimed to: determine the demographic profile and economic profile of the respondents, milled rice information, and problems encountered in the business; evaluate the physical properties of milled rice in three municipalities following the standard grading analysis of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for milled rice; and analyze variation in cost of milled rice per kilogram in terms of head rice, moisture content, percent brokens, grain weight and cracked grains. Five common rice varieties in each of the three stores of the three municipalities were choSen, these are Sinandomeng, Dinorado, Maharlika, Angelica and Jasmine. From + 410 the grain analysis, based on standards, all the rice samples were slender. Majority of the rice samples from Indang and Mendez were medium grains. In contrast, majority of the rice samples in Naic were considered as long grain. Jasmine variety always got the highest grade based on head rice percentage, least broken rice percentage and moisture content compared to other varieties. Jasmine variety was graded premium grade in each stores of each municipality. Angelica variety always has the lowest grade based on head rice percentage, broken rice percentage and moisture content compared to other varieties. Angelica variety was graded as Grade 2 and even the lowest grade of Grade 3 standard in two rice stores in Naic. The analysis of the cost of milled rice per kilogram per variety in terms of different parameters showed that different variety have different factors affecting its cost per kilogram. The factors such as head rice, moisture content, broken rice, crack grains and weight of milled rice may affect the cost per kilogram of milled rice.
