Abstract: CAISIP, SHARON RODRIGUE, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite. Philippines. April 1997. " Nitrogen Fertilization on Three Improved Saline Prone Rice Varieties under Batangas Condition." Dr. Juho G. Alava, Adviser. This study was conducted on irrigated rice field with saline sons of Calatagan, Batangas during the wet season of 1996. The study was conducted primal to determine the growth and yield response of two improved saline prone rice and one check variety to varying levels of nitrogen fertilizer under saline son in Batangas. The study was laid out split plot in Randomized Complete Block design (RCBD) with four levels of nitrogen as main plots and three rice varieties as the sub-plots. The characters evaluated were the bi-weekly height, timer number at different stages, number of panicles, length of middle panicle, number of grains , percentage of unfilled 1000 grain weight and vain yield in kilograms per hectare. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed that there were significant differences among the levels of nitrogen for all the characters evaluated except on weight of 1000 gains. Likewise significant differences were also observed among the three rice varieties in all characters evaluated. Among the interaction studied, only the grain yield showed significant difference between the interaction of variety and levels of nitrogen fertilizer. IR-9884-54-3-PI showed superiority in terms of grain yield, number of tillers, height in centimeter at 75 days after transplanting (DAT), number and length of panicle and percentage filled grains. Application of 180 kg./ ha and 120 kg N/ ha markedly increased the height of the number, percentage of filled and unfilled grain md grain yield Hograms per hectare. Moreover, application of 180 kg N/ ha especially on IR 9884-54-3-PI exceptionally showed the highest grain yield.
