Abstract: VELASCO, ERICKSON M. Profitability of Motorcycle Parts and Accessories Shop in Selected Lowland Municipalities of Cavite. UndergraduateThesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics_ major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2009. Adviser Dr. Luzviminda A. Rodrin. The study was conducted in the selected municipalities of Cavite, namely: Bacoor, Cavite City, Dasmarinas, General Trias, Imus, Kawit, Naic, Noveleta, Rosario, Silang, Tanza, and Trece Martires City. The study aimed to: describe the socio-economic characteristics of motorcycle parts and accessories shop operators/owners; describe the characteristics of motorcycle parts and accessories shop; describe the practices of motorcycle parts and accessories shop; determine the profitability of motorcycle parts and accessories shop; determine the relationship between profit and some selected variables; and identify the problems encountered by motorcycle parts and accessories shop operators in operating the business. A total of 50 motorcycle parts and accessories shop were interviewed using the structured interview schedule. Frequency counts, percentages, ranges and averages were used in presenting the socio-economic characteristics of the motorcycle parts and accessories shop operators. Cost and return analysis was used to determine the profit generated from motorcycle parts and accessories shop business. To asses the profitability of motorcycle parts and accessories shop, the following ratios were used: gross profit margin, operating profit margin, net profit margin, and return on operating expenses. The chi-square test was used to describe the relationship between the selected variables and profitability of motorcycle parts and accessories shop. The age of respondents ranged from 19 to 65 years with an average of 38.04 years. Most of them are college graduate and have an initial capital of P30, 000 to P100, 000. Out of 50 respondents, 39 were males and 11 females and 36 reported they were already married. The characteristics of motorcycle parts and accessories shop determined were: location of business; years of operation; form of ownership; initial investment; hours of operation and days of operation. Practices include: number of motorcycle parts offered for sale; price of motorcycle parts offered for sale; quality of motorcycle parts offered for sale, number of motorcycle accessories offered for sale; price of motorcycle accessories offered for sale and quality of motorcycle accessories offered for sale. Majority of the operators complained that high number of competitors as its major problem and high payment of taxes as its minor problem in the business. Most of the motorcycles parts and accessories shop were located within the town and had been in operation for an average of 4.14 years are sole proprietorship. The initial investment of motorcycle parts and accessories shop ranged from Php30,000 to Php500,000 with an average of Php116,700. The average number of hour's operation was 11.25 hours. Majority of the motorcycle parts and accessories shop were open from Monday to Saturday or six days. Nearly half of the respondents had helper in their business. There are 63 motorcycle parts offered for sale and 25 motorcycle accessories offered for sale by motorcycle parts and accessories shop operators. Gross profit margin of motorcycle parts and accessories shop ranged from 0.25 to 0.9429 and had an average gross profit margin of 0.6169. It shows that motorcycle parts and accessories shop had average gross profit margin. On the other hand, the net profit margin of motorcycle parts and accessories shop ranged from 0.088 to 06933 with an average of 0.3608. It was also found that majority of the respondents had an average operating profit margin of 0.4001 and average operating expenses of 2.2707.
