Marcelino A. Dagasdas and Sancho P. Bayot Jr. The built-in capability of STAAD-III to perform analysis was presented. The complexity of Mathematical expressions involving matrix operation and dynamic equation were simplified by using STAAD-III Linear Analysis Method The scope of the problem was limited to linear behavior of the two-storey steel commercial building. The structure was analyzed for combined lateral, seismic and vertical loads. All the horizontal floor girders were wide flange sections. All columns were W 14 sections (wide flange) of various weights per foot, which were spliced every floor. All the connections were welded and moment resisting. The seismic analysis and other parameters were based on the existing codes and specifications of NSCP 1992. the Allowable Stress Design (ASD) Method of AISC — 1989 was adopted for analysis, design and checking of the structural members for linear. The main objective of the study was to analyze, design and develop a steel commercial building in the university to determine the estimated cost in order to provide the Administration, Physical Plant Services and the College of Engineering a reference for the future implementation of the project. The study also aims to develop a scaled model to present the visual the outcome of the design. The study revealed that the variation of loadings on the structural member produces section that was different from each other. In order to cope with the differences, structural members adopted were the largest along those particular sections. This was done to provide uniformity and aesthetic effect to the entire structure without affecting the economy, strength, and safety of the building.
