Abstract: Ocampo, Myrna Buhay, "A Comparative study on pro-duction Cost and Income of Broiler and Egg producers in Cavite", B.S. Thesis, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, march, 1963. Adviser: Mrs. Maria A. Ersando. This study aimed primarily to 1) gather information on the socio-economic characteristics of broiler and egg producers; 2) determine the initial investment of both broiler and egg producers; 3) determine the level of pro-duction cost and income of both broiler and egg producers; 4) determine the marketing cost and income of the broiler and egg producers; 6) determine the production and market-ing problems confronted by the broiler and egg producers. This study was conducted in some selected towns of Cavite. There were 50 respondents consisting of 25 broiler raisers and 25 egg producers. The sample was of this size because there were only few who were engaged in broiler and egg production at the time of the study. Results revealed that egg producers were older than that of the broiler producers. All egg producers had formal schooling and had been in the business for quite a long time, while a few of the broiler raiser had no formal schooling. Both raisers considered poultry product-ion as one of the major sources of income. Broiler raisers had higher annual family income than egg producers. The initial investment of broiler producers was greater than that of the egg producers. On the other hand, the cost of marketing eggs was higher than that of market-ing broilers. In general, the cost of producing broilers in one production cycle was higher than that of producing eggs. Conversely, the income obtained from egg production in one production cycle was higher than that obtained from broiler production. on per 500 heads and per month basis, however, it was found out that the cost of production, gross income and net income were higher in egg production than in broiler production. The average cost of production per kilogram of broiler was p9.80. With the current market price of p10.00 per kilogram of broiler, a raiser would have a net income of p.70 per kilogram. whereas, for egg production, the average cost to produce an egg was p.57 at a current market price of p.65 per egg, one would get a net return of p.08 per egg. Occurence of disease was the major production prob-lem cited by the raisers. on marketing the products, fluctuation of price, stiff competition among producers, and poor sale of culls were the major problems cited by producers.
