The study entitled ROOT / SHOOT DEVELOPMENT OF DENDROBIUM PROTOCORMS AS AFFECTED BY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF INDOLE ACETIC ACID (TAA) was conducted to determine the effects of different levels of Indole Acetic Acid on the growth and development of Dendrobium protocorms, primarily in number and length of roots produced and number of leaves and their length.
The treatments of the study were as follows: Treatment 0 - 0 IAA, Treatment 4, - 2 ppm TAA, Treatment 2 - 4 ppm TAA and Treatment 3— 6 ppm TAA. These were incorporated into the Knudson C media. Data gathering was done at bi-weekly intervals starting from the 8" to the 12% " week after reflashing. Parameters taken were number of roots, length of roots, number of leaves and length of leaves.
Results showed that different levels of Indole Acetic Acid had a significant effect on the growth and development of Dendrobium protocorms. Treatment 4 (6 ppm TAA) gave the best means, while Treatment 9 — 0 IAA gave the lowest results. Moreover, DMRT showed that the results obtained from the plants cultured with 4 ppm [AA produced results with non significant differences from the results exhibited by the plants cultured with 6 ppm IAA, although they vary in terms of number of roots produced.
