Abstract: Ramos, Romeo F., "Profitability Analysis of Coconut Carving in Cavite", B.S. Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Major in Agricultural Economics, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, March 1988. This study was conducted to determine the (1) income of coconut carvers in Cavite; (2) level and cost of product- ion in coconut carving; (3) socio-economic characteristics of coconut carvers; (4) relationship between profitability of coconut carving and some selected socio-economic variables; and (5) different problems presently encountered by coconut carvers. Cavite City, Noveleta, Silang and Indang were selected. as research areas. One-hundred coconut carvers were used and distributed equally among the areas. The average age of the respondents was 33 years old. Majority of them were males, married and had attained high school and college levels. The average number of dependents was four. The length of experience in coconut carving ranged from three to 17 years with an average of 8.32 years. Most of the carvers were laborers. The total cost of production ranged from 6,000.00 to 81,400.00 with an average of 56,800.00. The total annual gross return ranged from 18,000.00 to 122,800.00 with an average of 98,600.00. The profit earned by the coconut carvers gave an average of 41,800.00. The study revealed that the profitability of coconut carving was affected by the age, civil status, educational attainment, and length of experience of the respondents. However, sex of the respondents did not affect the profitability of the coconut carving business. The number of delivery periods ranged from four to 48 times. The products were sold to contract buyers on a wholesale basis. The problems mostly encountered by the respondents were lack of materials, lack of capital, high cost of materials, rejection upon delivery of produce to contract buyers, lack of cooperation among them and unavailability of cash upon delivery of produce.
