April 1996. Adviser: Prof. Cecilia T. Cayao. This study was conducted to determine the socio-economic characteristics of the respondents; to determine the production and marketing practices employed by the chrysanthemum growers; determine the cost and return from production of chrysanthemum; determine the relationship tween farmers income and some selected variables and to identify the problems encountered by the chrysanthemum growers. Three municipalities of Cavite were selected as search areas for this study. These were Silang, Alfonso d Tagaytay City. Sixty respondents were selected through simple random sampling. Data were gathered with the use of e-tested interview schedule. The average age of the respondents was 47 years old. Majority of the farmers attained low level of education; e. average number of dependents was 5. Majority of the respondents were farm-owners, and the average experience in chrysanthemum farming was 19 years. Majority of them were gaged in chrysanthemum growing for less than 7 years. The size of the area devoted to pots was 3m x 15m; 4.5 sq. on plot form and 3m x 5m on the side of the house. The average f r 1 0 h f umber of chrysanthemum planted in pots was 153, on the plot form was 97 and in the side of the house was 84.8. Average income derived from chrysanthemum was P3650.00. Respondents reported farming and government service as source of income. Production practices employed by the respondents were and preparation, planting, weeding, fertilization; control f pest and diseases, flower induction, and finally harvesting and grading. In terms of marketing practices, majority of the farmers practiced pick-up sale. The most common market outlet was the wholesalers and the mode of payment was in ash. The problems commonly encountered by the farmers were natural calamities, low productivity, insufficient amount of capital, low prices offered by the buyers and unavailability f transportation.
