Abstract: The Farm Practice Training was conducted at Barangay Lumipa, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite from September, 1985 to February, 1986 to enable the student to put into practice the technical know-how in maximizing production through the use of an intercropping system. A 5,000 square meter field was plowed and harrowed two times at an interval of one week to allow weed seeds to germinate and to kill the harmful organisms present in the soil and until the good tilt of the soil was attained. Planting was done on September 7, 1985. Sweet potato tip cuttings were planted immediately after furrowing to prevent the soil in the furrow from drying up. Only one tip cutting was planted per hill, the cutting was set 30 centimeters between hills and 50 to 75 centi-meters between furrows. Corn In between rows of sweet potato, corn seeds were drilled on the prepared furrows with a distance of 75 centimeters between hills of 50 to 75 centimeters between furrows.. Sound and viable seeds of corn were used at the rate of two to three seeds per hill. Split application of fertilizer was done at the rate of 250 kilograms per hectare. The farm practice student had a total investment of P775.00 for the purchase of seeds of corn and sweet potato tip cuttings, fertilizer and other materials. The farmer's counterpart was the corresponding labor which was performed by the farmer and other hired laborers at an estimated value of P800.00. Three thousand eight hundred corn ears produced were sub-divided into 3 classes: Class A with a total ears of 2,000 at P0.40 per ear; Class B with a total. ears of 1,000 at P0.30 per ear and Class C with a total. ears of 800 at P0.20 per ear. Three hundred kilograms of sweet potato tubers were marketed at the prevailing market price of P2.50 per kilogram. The cost and return analysis showed that after deducting all the operating expenses of PI 075.00 from the gross income of P2,010.00, the project gave a net income of P435.00.
