The project, “Production of White Corn and Mungo in an Intercropping Scheme” was conducted at Conchu, Trece Martires City for a four-month period, August to November 1989. It aimed to gain necessary skills in the production of white corn and mungo particularly in controlling the environment of the crops in order to effect better crop grown and development.
The project which covered an area of P1,500 square meters was prepared by two subsequent plowing and harrowing using an animal drawn implement followed by furrowing and planting. Fertilizer application was conducted two times. The first was administered during planting time where complete fertilizer (14-14-14) was evenly applied on the row spaces. The second application of urea fertilizer (46-0-0) was made when the corn plants were about 45 centimeters in height.
Four months later, 2,100 ears of corn were harvested in the three classes, Class A, 650 corn ears were sold at P0.75 per ear: Class B, 650 at p0.60/ear and Class C, 850 at P0.50 per ear.
Mungo pods on the other hand, were harvested 60-65 days after planting which produced 20 gantas and were sold at P40.00/ganta. After deducting all the farm expenses a net income of P325.00 was obtained.
