Abstract: This farm practice project entitled, Intercropping Papaya with Ginger was conducted at Bancod, lndang, Cavite from June 1993 to February 1994. The general objective of the project was to determine the productivity and profitability of papaya intercropped with ginger. The conduct of the project started with alternate plowing and harrowing the 1,000 square meter area. Thorough land preparation was done to eradicate the weeds and enhanced the decomposition of organic materials present in the field and to ensure good soil tilth. Papaya seedlings were planted in each hole spaced at 3 meters apart. Each hole was filled with 3 kilograms of compost. Seed Pieces of ginger were planted between the rows of papaya at a distance of 30 centimeters between rows and 20 centimeters between hills. Matured papaya was harvested six to eight months after planting. Ginger was harvested nine months after planting. Both crops were marketed at lndang Public Market. Four hundred papaya fruits were harvested and were sold P10.00/fruit. On the other hand, ginger produced 4,000 kilograms which was sold at P 6/kilogram. The gross sale from papaya and ginger was P28,000.00. After deducting the overall expenses of P17,528.03, the project gave a total net income of P10,471.97. The project obtained 59.74% Return on Investment.
