Abstract: AURE, Genetalio, Quinones, Don Severino Agricultural College, October, 1980. "Some Factors Related to Post Harvest Practices Employed by Rice Farmers in Cavite." This study was conducted with the following objectives: 1) present a socio economic profile of Cavite rice farmers; 2) know the different post harvest practices employed by these farrmers; 3) identify their problems both on production and post harvest practices of palay; and lastly 4) determine the relationship between level of post harvest practices and some selected socio economic variables. Four barrios were selected as research areas for this study. The total number of respondents were selected by simple random sampling. The average age of the respondents was 48.9 years. Majority of the farmers were able to reach the primary grades of education. Most of the respondents were lessees with an average dependents of 5. The average size of farm planted to rice was 2.49 hectares, On the average they had a farming experience of 25.2 years. The average cost of production was P2,286.00 while the average net return was P1,895.00 per farmer. On per hectare basis the average cost of production was P918.89 and average net return was P778.72. In terms of post harvest practices adopted by farmers, threshing of palay was the most frequently mentioned. Drying, storing and milling were also practiced by farmers. Adoption of post harvest practices was found not related to age, educational attainment, number of dependents, experience in rice farming, tenure status and size of farm land, but was closely related to net income from rice farming. The major problems encountered by farmers in production were high cost of chemicals and fertilizer, inadequate water supply, poor conditions of irrigation canals, occurence of some pest and diseases, lack of capital, and lack of needed help from rice technicians. High cost of transportation, and fluctuation on prices of palay and rice were the problems cited on post harvest practices of palay.
