Abstract: ACDOG, NEZEL L. AND VENZON, NENITA B., Utilization and Economic Contribution of Microfinance Loans to the Residents of Calatagan, Batangas. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Financial Management . Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Mrs. Nelia E. Feranil. The study was conducted to determine the utilization and economic contribution of microfinance loans to the residents of Calatagan, Batangas. Specifically, the study aimed to describe and determine the socio-economic profiles of the residents; the microfinance loan services availed by the residents from microfinance institutions; loan utilizations of the residents; the level of economic contribution of microfinance loans to the residents; and also the problems encountered in availing and utilizing the loans acquired. A total of 342 microfinance borrowers served as participants of the study. Survey questionnaire was used in gathering the data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as frequency count, percentage, range and mean. The level of economic contribution of microfinance loans to the residents, the following scale were used: very high, high, average, low and very low. Majority of the borrowers from microfinance institutions were female with an average age of 45 years, married and self-employed with an average monthly income of P10, 088.19. Results revealed that for the first, second and third loan of the borrowers, majority of them availed business loan, followed by housing loan, personal/emergency loan and educational loan, respectively. It was also revealed that loans borrowed from microfinance institutions were not fully utilized according to its intended purpose, which resulted to an average level of economic contribution. Majority of the participants did not encounter problems in availing microfinance loans and more than half of the borrowers encountered improper utilization of loans availed.
