Abstract: CASTRO, HAIDEE PARIL and ROMANES, NIDA SISMAET. “ The Image of Sisa: A Comparative Analysis in the Novel Noli Me Tangere and the Film Sisa of Mario O’hara”. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, major in Journalism. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2004. Adviser: Mrs. Rumina Astudillo-Gil. The study was conducted at the researchers’ house at Naic, Cavite, from November 2003 to March 2004. The study aimed to compare the images of Sisa in the novel Noli Me Tangere and the film Sisa of Mario O’hara. Specifically, it aimed to: identify the images of Sisa as a mother, wife, woman, lover, and citizen based on the film Sisa and from the novel Noli Me Tangere; and analyze the similarities and differences between the images of Sisa in the novel Noli Me Tangere and the film Sisa of Mario Ohara. A content analysis form and thematic table were used to analyze and interpret the different images of Sisa. The novel Noli Me Tangere and the copy of the film Sisa were the subjects for comparative analysis. Both media were critically analyzed and interpreted. The results of the study showed that the film and novel have differences and similarities in the presentation of the image of Sisa. Sisa in the film is: a loving mother; an unfaithful wife; an independent, kind, and attentive woman, a liberated, passionate, and supportive lover; and a degraded and violent citizen. In the novel Sisa is a: loving mother; a martyr and faithful wife; a weak and dependent woman; a degraded citizen. Her image in the novel as a lover is not mentioned.
