Abstract: CONSTANCIO, ROWENA A. and VANESSA N. MONTON. Core Filipino Values as Reflected in the Movie Tanging Yaman: A Textual Analysis. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication major in Journalism. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2002. Adviser: Miss Michelle M. Valerio. The study was conducted from December 2001 to March 2002 at the Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. It aimed to describe the movie Tanging Yaman in terms of characters, dialogue and action; to identify the core Filipino values as reflected in the movie Tanging Yaman, and to determine how the core Filipino values are reflected through its characters, dialogue and action. The textual analysis focusing on the core Filipino values reflected through its characters, dialogue and actions of the movie Tanging Yaman was used to make a detailed analysis about the film. The thematic table and content analysis guide were used as the research instruments. Books, Internet, script and film tapes of Tanging Yaman were used as references to gain more information about the film. In the content analysis, it was found out that Tanging Yaman is a quality film according to the published interview with the director of the movie because it used powerful and versatile actors and actresses in the film industry. The characters, dialogue and actions of this film were convincing. The characters dialogue were clear and delivered effectively. They all spoke and delivered their lines in a natural way. The film used appropriate casting and talented artists from the film industry. The core Filipino values reflected in the movie Tanging Yaman are love, faith and hard work. Through this movie, people will realize the value of love, faith and hard work not only in their family but also in their daily lives. The results of the study showed that core Filipino values are reflected in different Wines through characters, dialogue and action. Love is reflected in seven particular scenes; faith in six scenes, and hard work in three scenes of the movie.
