Abstract: ASICAP, JUNROLL B. AND RICKY A. NOEL Attitude Towards Sports of College Students in Cavite State University. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Sports and Recreational Management. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2008. Adviser: Mr. Victor F. Piores. A study was conducted to determine the attitude towards sports of college students in Cavite State University. Specifically, the study aimed to: describe the profile of college students in CvSU in terms of age, gender, weekly school allowance, and monthly family income; determine the attitude of college students towards sports; and ascertain if the attitude of college students towards sports significantly differs by age, gender, weekly school allowance, and monthly family income. A total of 98 student-respondents were covered in this study. Proportional sampling was employed to determine the number of student-respondents from each college. Accidental sampling was employed in selecting the student-respondents from each College. Z-test was used to determine if there is a significant difference in the attitude towards sports when respondents are grouped by gender while analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilized to test if there is a significant difference in the attitude towards sports when respondents are grouped by age, weekly school allowance, and monthly family income. Findings showed that more than a third of the college students were not practicing sports and other physical activity out of school. Home was the most common place where college students spent most of their time engaging in sports and other physical activity out of school. The most common reason why college students did not practice sports and physical activity in and out of school was lack of time. There were more college students who are engaged in sports and other physical activity in school campus than those who did not practice it. The most frequently visited CvSU facility by college students for sports and other physical activity in the past month were classrooms, gymnasium, and school grounds. Gymnasium, dancing hall/studio, outdoor basketball court and climbing wall were the sports facilities that college students perceived to be inadequate and/or needed in CvSU. The most popular sports or physical activity engaged in by college students of CvSU were walking for pleasure, jogging/running, basketball, badminton, and exercising/aerobics. Test statistics revealed that male college students spent more number of days and more time in sports and other physical activity in and out of school than their female counterpart. Also, significant difference existed in the main reasons of male and female college students for not engaging in sports and other physical activity in and out of school. College students' weekly school allowance had significant effect on the number of days that they were engaged in sports and other physical activity out of school. College students belonging to the group with highest and lowest weekly school allowance were spending more days in sports and other physical activity than those belonging with weekly school allowance ranging from Php 500 to Php 1,299.
