Abstract: BACOS, ROMELITO D. and ZULUETA, ERWIN JOHN B. Analysis and Design of a Prototype Monorail Guideway and Station. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr. The Analysis and Design of a Prototype Monorail Guideway and Station was conducted at Cavite State University - Main Campus from June 2015 to March 2016. The study aimed to prepare structural and architectural plans for a prototype guideway and a typical station that was proposed to be erected along Governor’s Drive. Also, determination of location of possible stations along the highway, and cost estimate for the monorail station were also included in the Study. The proposed station is a mixed occupancy, four - storey building. It had a floor area of 1,584 square meters and consisted of rooms allotted for electrical equipments, electrical signalling, transformers, janitorial, ticketing booths, commercial stalis and security. The guideway is a grade separated reinforced concrete structure that was proposed to run along the median of the highway. The design of the guideway was comprised of design of the guideway beam, diaphragm, pier coping, monorail column and monorail footing. The engineering software STAAD (Structural Aided Analysis and Design) was used in the analysis of structural framework. The guidelines set by the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP) and Analysis and Design of Reinforced Concrete Guideways and Structures (ACI - 358 — IR — 92) were followed in the design computation. The ultimate moment, shear and axial loads were the basis for the design. All specification needed were followed in the design process. Detailed analysis and design was proven safe and economical after the manual computation of the design. The study was able to identify ten stations along the highway: from Indang - Trece Martires Intersection to Palapala in Dasmarinas. The stations determined were as follows: Trece Martires (West Terminus), Conchu, Hugo Perez, Gentri Heights, Manggahan, LPU, Monterey, FCIE, Metrogate Dasma and Pala — pala (East Terminus) Stations. The highway where the monorail was proposed to be constructed measures approximately 10.07 kilometers. The estimated cost for the monorail station was Php 36, 689, 739.66. Based on the study conducted, construction of a monorail transit system along busy highways, specifically Governor’s Drive, proved to be a great idea to help traffic decongestion and aid fast movement of people and goods. It is recommended that the station be designed using space method in STAAD which the authors are not able to perform due to unavailability of the program. The electrical and plumbing systems of the station shall also be designed for implementation in the future. Furthermore, the authors recommend the implementation of the proposal in the future for innovation and promotion of sustainable transportation.
