BAUTISTA, IVAN LEWIS D. and VICEDO, JOY MARBEN Q. Ergonomic Study on Bus Driver’s Workstation. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Apri] 2016. Adviser: Engr. Willie C. Buclatin.
The study was conducted to identify the ergonomic risk factors present in bus drivers’ workstation of an ordinary bus associated to musculoskeletal disorders. The personal attributes, work- related factors, and working postures were analyzed with respect to the frequency and severity of stress symptoms on specified body parts to determine risk factors that permits the occurrences of musculoskeletal disorders.
Through survey questionnaires, demographic profile, work-related factors, and working postures were then identified. The total participants of the study were fifty four (54) bus drivers of ordinary bus randomly obtained from all bus liners in Indang, Cavite.
Correlation analysis such as Somer’s D was used to determine the degree of relationship between demographic profile, work- related factors, and working postures to the musculoskeletal symptoms.
The result of correlation analysis showed that demographic profile, work- related factors, and working postures were associated to musculoskeletal disorder symptoms. Some of the body parts that were considered to the study were significantly affected by musculoskeletal disorder symptoms such as lower back pain, right leg pain, right knee pain, and right thigh pain that can lead to more serious disorder.
This study suggested standard measurements for the bus driver’s seat that would lessen the chance of having musculoskeletal disorders as well as its impact to the
performance of bus drivers. This study also suggested special kind of materials to be used in making the seat such as the fiber-reinforced plastic.
