Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2009. Adviser: Prof. Lina C.Abogadie. A field study was conducted at Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative (SIDC), Sorosoro Ibaba, Batangas City from November 11, 2008 to January 31, 2009, for the student to be trained and exposed to the real work situation as well as the different management activities in a real business operation. It also gave the student the opportunities to experience how to act as an employee and apply what she has learned from four years of studying. During training, the author also learned how to handle problems arising from the actual business operations and recommended actions that might solve those problems. Data such as historical background, organization and management, policies, motivation and incentives, products and services, problems encountered and plans were gathered from SIDC’s website (www.sidcnet.com) and cooperative’s file, and through observations and interviews. SIDC is one of the most awarded and most successful cooperatives in the country. The Cooperative offers a variety of products and services such as organic vegetables and fertilizers, feeds, contract growing, minimart.(Coop Mart), electronic weighing scale, savings and loans, artificial insemination for sows, pig multiplier farm, CATV cable, Batangas City slaughterhouse, processed meat, meat shop, gasoline, and mineral water. Meanwhile, services offered to its members were free medical check up, scholarship grant, barangay development fund, pollution control, news letter, patronage refund, job opportunities, mortuary aid, seminars and trainings, outreach programs, marketing and technical assistance. The author was assigned to the Green Farm under the New Business Development Division (NBDD) of the Cooperative where she performed the different activities. The Green Farm produces organic fertilizers known as Bio-N and Koop Likas. The author experienced doing the technology transfer module. She also helped in supervising farm operations such as sowing, transplanting, monitoring, harvesting, marketing, and remitting sales to the treasurer’s office. She likewise helped in the production of organic fertilizers. The author observed that SIDC employees really value every member who joins the Cooperative. There were lots of benefits given like scholarship grant, free medical check up, and hospitalization among others. The Cooperative truly helps in establishing a prosperous economic status of its members. From 2004 to 2007, the Cooperative got a total net income of Php119, 604,896.10 from all its businesses. Some of the problems the author noticed were: the SIDC main office is not accessible; there are limited vehicles routing the area; and their website is not updated.
