Abstract: SANTIAGO, LESLIE ANNE VILLANUEVA. Toms Manufacturing Philippines Corporation, Maguyam Silang Cavite. Field Study. Bachelor of Science in Business Management major in Marketing. Cavite State University. Indang Cavite. April 2003. Adviser: Mrs. Ma. Corazon A. Buena. A field study was conducted in Toms Manufacturing Corporation located at Block 1, Lot 2, Daiichi Industrial Park Maguyam Road, Silang, Cavite from October 28, 2002 to January 31, 2003. Generally, this study aimed to provide opportunity for the author to apply the concepts and principles learned in class to actual business operation. Specifically, this aimed to describe the organization and management, production and financial aspects of the company, describe the functions of personnel and administrative department, describe the functions of accounting department and identify the problems encountered by personnel and accounting department. Data and information were gathered from files and records of the company, formal and informal interviews with the employees, observation and researches, made from Cavite State University Library. Toms Manufacturing Corporation was organized in Japan to manufacture plastic parts of computer, audio components and other electronic products. In August 1997, Toms Japan decided to make a second overseas plant in the Philippines due to the increasing demand of customers. It was established and legally registered to the Securities and Exchange Commission and Philippine Export Zone Authority on October 16, 1997. The construction of the plant in Cavite started in November 1997 and finished in May 1998. Two months after the construction of plant, production operation started with 14 units of injection machines. In June 1999, the firm decided to expand the plant due to increasing production demands and purchased additional two units of injection machines. During the course of study, the trainee was assigned at the Personnel and Accounting Department. In the Personnel Department, she performed different tasks that include encoding and computing of weekly canteen meal, updating 201 file of the employees and employees masterlist, encoding the overtime authorization of the employees, preparing personnel action notice and employment contract of newly hired employee, processing of Philhealth, SSS and Pag-ibig documents. She also encoded and updated Philhealth, SSS and Pag-ibig contributions of the employees and issued t-shirt, working shoes and ID. She was also assigned to give pre-employment examination to applicants and prepared memorandum for employees whose contracts will expire and certificate of clearance. In the Accounting Department, she prepared checks and check vouchers and assisted the accountant in encoding and computing the salaries of the employee every first and last week of the month. She also learned how to process documents in the bank such as money fund transfer and applying for new bank account. Likewise, she encoded and computed the employees’ certificate for income tax return, updated and computed the SSS loan of employees. During her training she also learned how to use a computer in Japanese language. She also leammed some Japanese terms such sayonara meaning goodbye and ohio gosaimas meaning good morning/afternoon.
