CELORICO, JUSTIN NICOLE P., DAGANTA, WILMA MHAE E., and QUE, TRISHA MAE A. Influence of Internet Utilization on Financial Performance of Microbusinesses in Dasmarinas, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. August 2022. Adviser: Dr. Dolores L. Aguilar.
Microbusinesses are prominent anywhere in the country; however, they still encounter constraints such as limited capital and inadequate financing, which may result in bankruptcy. This is challenging for their advancement, but the Internet is a favorable opportunity for them to engage with potential customers. The study was conducted from the first semester of 2020 to January 2022 in the City of Dasmariñas, Cavite. It sought to determine the influence of internet utilization on the financial performance of microbusinesses therein, particularly their profitability. A total of 123 microbusinesses were chosen via convenience sampling.
This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design, as well as descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages, measure of central tendency and standard deviation, to determine the profile of microbusinesses, evaluate the level of internet utilization efficiency among microbusinesses, and evaluate the financial performance of their business. The significance of the linear relationship between Internet efficiency and microbusiness financial performance was also assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The study revealed that most microbusinesses have been operating for approximately five years, a period during which growth is evident.
These microbusinesses have already experienced a shift in their income and expenses, achieved a strong online presence, and gained extensive communication. However, based on the evaluation, they could only use the Internet moderately, implying that some factors intervene in this relationship. Nevertheless, their financial performance remains above average with some areas for improvement. This study further concludes that the Internet significantly affects the financial performance of microbusinesses and serves as a valuable tool to overcome inferiority to large companies, improve profitability, and survive economic change. Microbusinesses in Dasmariñas, Cavite may consider learning how to utilize financial performance information to make critical business decisions and reconsider their operating costs and management practices by assessing the risks associated with their revenue-generating activities.
