GUBAN, MARIEL B. Effectiveness of Selected Botanicals against Coffee Berry Borer Hypothenemus spp. in Coffea canephora (Coleoptera: Scolytidae). Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, May 2017. Adviser: Dr. Evelyn 0. Singson.
This study was conducted from January to April 2017 to evaluate the anti-feedant, anti-oviposition and toxicity activity effects of selected botanicals against Coffee Berry Borer on the storage pest of coffee bean. The experiment was set up using Completely Randomized Design in the Plant Pest Clinic in the Department of Crop Science, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite
Coffee berry borer was reared in the laboratory and allowed to reproduce in coffee bean. The results showed that Azadirachta indica (3.1 %) treatment had the lowest percent weight loss on the food consumed by CBB followed by Ageratum conyzoides (8.7%), Lantana camara (12.25%), Tithonia diversifolia (25.95%) and Chromolaena odorata (32.15%). The highest oviposition rate was observed in A. indica (91.9%) followed by A. conyzoides (72.99%), L. camara (64.88%), T. diversifolia (43.23%) and C. odorata (29.68%). In toxicity test, the highest CBB mortality was observed in A. indica (94%) followed by A. conyzoides and L. camara (32%). This study concluded that neem (A:adirachta indica) was the best botanical plant to reduce the weight loss of coffee beans, had highest oviposition rate and significantly caused highest mortality rate of Coffee Berry Borer.
