Summary: "Environmental Pollution occurs in different forms; air, water, soil, radioactive, noise, heat/thermal and light. Every form of pollution has two sources of occurrence; the point and the non-point sources. The point sources are easy to identify, monitor and control, whereas the non-point sources are hard to control. Toxic environmental pollution affects more than 200 million people worldwide, according to Pure Earth, a nonprofit environmental organization. Air pollution is responsible for major health effects. Every year, the health of countless people is ruined or endangered by air pollution. Many different chemicals in the air affect the human body in negative ways. Just how sick people will get depends on what chemicals they are exposed to, in what concentrations, and for how long. Pollution in the form of organic material enters waterways in many different forms as sewage, as leaves and grass clippings, or as runoff from livestock feedlots and pastures. When natural bacteria and protozoan in the water break down this organic material, they destroyed the whole things. Water contaminated with pesticides could be unfit for human consumption, stock, drinking, irrigation, food processing and fish farming. Arsenic is released into the environment as natural or industrial processes. Arsenic contamination of groundwater has been reported from 20 countries including Bangladesh, India (West Bengal), where drinking water as well as vegetables and rice have been contaminated. Aim of this book is to bridge the gap between traditional materials on pollution and quantitative and technical aspects that are the essence of most advanced environmental pollution."--Back cover
