"The earning from tourism have made it one of the world’s largest industries. It is the fasted growing sector of global trade. Hence the great importance of tourism planning and Human Resource Development. Human Resource Development (HRD) and Human Resource Management (HRM) are crucial management functions. These are of utmost importance in tourism and hospitality industry. Human resource development is the domain referring to the programmes, plans, strategies and steps evolved to enhance overall working spirit of workers, their knowledge and skill enhancement and thereby attaining all-round growth and progress of worker as well as business concern employing them. These may differ depending on individual businesses and business managers, yet the philosophy behind them is same. What sound principles are to be followed, who are responsible for human resource development, what are different concepts, methods and outcomes for it are questions requiring answers to satisfy present and future businessmen and managers. For many developing countries tourism is one of fundamental pillars of their development process because it is one of the dominant activities in the economy, while for others, particularly by islands and some small economies, it is the only source of foreign currency and employment, and therefore constitutes the platform for their economic development. The tourism sector is probably the only service sector that provides concrete and quantified trading opportunities for all nations, regardless of their level of development.
