Undergraduate thesis. Bachelor of Science in<br/>Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2019. Adviser: Dr. Paulito V.<br/>Hilario, Ph.D, RPsy, Rpm, RGC.<br/><br/>The study sought to determine the level of perceived discrimination of elderly gays and<br/>butch; the level of psychological well-being of elderly gays and butch; the significant difference<br/><br/>between elderly gays and butch in terms of perceived discrimination and psychological well-<br/>being. The study made used of descriptivecomparative method. Instruments used in data<br/><br/>gathering were the lifted 9-item Everyday Discrimination Scale that were answerable by a 6-<br/><br/>point Likert scale to measure the perceived discrimination and the 42- item Psychological Well-<br/>being scale that were answerable by a 6-point Likert scale.<br/><br/>Using the purposive sampling technique, participants were determined, they consisted of<br/>35 elderly gays and 25 elderly butch for a total of 70 participants. The statistical measures<br/>employed were mean and standard deviation in determining the level of Perceived<br/>discrimination and level of psychological well-being of elderly gays and butch in selected cities<br/>in Cavite, T-test was used to determine if there is a significant difference between elderly gays<br/>and butch.<br/>Based on the results, there was no significant difference between the level of perceived<br/>discrimination between elderly gays and butch. The results also revealed that there was no<br/>significant difference in the level of psychological well-being in terms of autonomy, personal<br/>relations, purpose in life and self-acceptance between elderly gays and butch. Lastly, it was also<br/>revealed that there was no significant difference in terms of environmental mastery and personal<br/>growth between elderly gays and butch. |
