"Costs and Returns of Different Cropping Patterns in SAKA Project, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite". Adviser: Dr, Alice T. Valerio, This study was conducted in Don severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, Twenty five SAKA scholars were interviewed to gather information about the production. The study aimed primarily to 1) determine the socio-economic characteristics of the scholars; 2) identify the cropping patterns adopted by the scholars; 3) compare the costs and returns from each cropping pattern and 4) deter-mine the problems encountered in the production and marketing of the produce. Out of twenty five scholars, 23 were male and 2 were female. The age of the scholars ranged from 18 to 22. Majority of, them were high school graduate. The average household size was five/with an average annual family income ranging from P6,000 to P30,000. Eight cropping patterns were identified in the study: Cropping pattern I - coffee - papaya - pineapple - coconut; Cropping II - rambutan - papaya - pineapple - coconut - gladiola; .Cropping pattern III - lanzones - banana - papaya - coffee - coconut - squash - ginger; Cropping pattern IV - coffee – black pepper gabi - banana - coconut; Cropping pattern V - black pepper - ginger - guyabano - banana - squash - coconut - gabi; Cropping pattern VI - ubi - cacao - jackfruit - gabi - banana - peanut - squash; Cropping pattern VII - ginger - orange - coffee - pineapple; and Cropping pattern VIII - calamansi - pineapple - guava - apple - ginger. Cash and non-cash cost requirements of different cropping patterns showed that Cropping pattern II incurred the highest cost amounting to P11,639.98 or 69 percent of the total cost incurred in 1988. In 1989, the highest total cost was incurred in Cropping pattern VII amounting to P13,500.35. In 1990, cropping pattern VIII got the highest share in total cost amounted to P8,326.24. Cropping Pattern II obtained a total revenue of P4,481.65 from gladiola only. In 1989, cropping pattern I gave the highest total revenue of P27,841.74 while in 1990, cropping pattern VI gave the highest total revenue of P4,544.30. The cost and return analysis showed that the all cropping modules had a net return above non-cash costs of P100,493.47 while it had a net return above total cost of P157,802.44. The net return above total cost was 0759,124.127r, , The problems éncountéred in the production were lack of necessary tools and equipment, high cost of fertilizer and attack of pests and diseases.
