This study aimed to compare and analyze the Manila Bulletin's and Philippine Daily Inquirer's news article about war on drugs. Specifically, it aimed to determine the news structure, types of lead, headline patterns, and placement of the published news articles about war on drugs from the news section.
The study was limited to the daily issues of Manila Bulletin and Philippine Daily Inquirer from April to June 2018. This covered only the war on drugs news articles of the broadsheets on the said year. The researchers gathered data from the National Library of the Philippines and university and city libraries. Qualitative approach and comparative analysis were used in this study. Specifically, the thematic table was used to compare and analyse the news structure, types of lead, headline pattern, and placement of news on war on drugs in Manila Bulletin and Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Based on the findings of the study, Manila Bulletin mostly used focus as news structure, summary lead for type of lead, flush left headlines, placed in inside page and upper fold. On the other hand, the Philippine Daily Inquirer mostly used narrative news structure summary lead, crossline headline, placed on inside page and lower fold.
