This study sought to determine the capabilities and competitiveness of human resource
managers in manufacturing companies in view of ASEAN economic Integration. Specifically,
the study aimed to (a) describe the demographic profile of the human resource managers in
selected manufacturing companies in the Philippine Economic Zone Authority in terms of age,
sex, civil status, educational attainment, and length of service; (b) determine the level of
awareness of human resource managers functions in view of ASEAN economic integration; (c)
determine the level of capabilities of human resource managers in view of ASEAN economic
integration; (d) determine the level of competitiveness of human resource managers in view of
ASEAN economic integration; (e) ascertain if there is a significant relationship between profile
and level of capabilities of human resource managers in selected manufacturing companies in
PEZA; (f) ascertain if there is a significant relationship between profile and level of
competitiveness of human resource managers in selected manufacturing companies in PEZA;
(g) ascertain if there is a significant relationship between level of awareness in ASEAN
Integration and capabilities of human resource managers in selected manufacturing companies
in PEZA• (h) ascertain if there is a significant relationship between awareness in ASEAN
Integration and competitiveness of human resource managers in selected manufacturing
companies in
PEZA; and (I) ascertain if there is a significant relationship between capabilities and
competitiveness of human resource managers in selected manufacturing companies in PEZA.
Total enumeration was employed in the study and the total respondents were 90
human resource managers who answered to be part of the study. A survey questionnaire was
used in the collection of primary data.
Findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between profile
and capabilities of human resource managers, particularly the educational attainment of the
participants. Also, there was a correlation between the profile and competitiveness in terms of
educational attainment and length of service. The result also revealed that the awareness on
ASEAN economic integration had correlation between capabilities and competitiveness. Lastly,
there is a relationship between capabilities and competitiveness in terms of knowledge of the
job and performance and productivity of the HR managers in PEZA. Likewise, they have a
positive result on being capable and competitive inside and outside the workplace.
In general, there was no significant relationship between profile in terms of age in level
of capabilities. Likewise, no significant relationship was found between profile and age in terms
of level of competitiveness of the human resource managers.
