Cresino A study was conducted to describe the profile of student trainees, describe the task performed by the student trainees in the work place, describe the working condition of the trainees, determine the level of appropriateness of trainees work to the level of education of the students, determine the level of usefulness of the knowledge acquired in studies to the work assigned in OJT program as perceived by the student trainees, determine the level of satisfaction obtained by the student trainees with the characteristic of professional situation in the OJT program, and identify the problems encountered by the student trainees during OJT. Quota samples of five colleges and five universities were utilized in this study. Ten students from each college/university were selected through purposive sampling. One hundred students were used as respondents in the study. Frequency count, mean, range, and percentage were used in analyzing the data. The average age of the respondents was 20 years. Majority of the respondents were female, and the remaining 31 percent were male. All the respondents were single and with family members ranging from 3 to 10 members. And had a weekly allowance at PhP848 per week. The top five frequently mentioned tasks performed by the respondents in the workplace were encoding (38%), customer service/receptionist (33%), filing/record keeping (30%), mechanical/technical/production work (21%), and medical services (20%). Twenty-percent of the nursing students were trained in health and social work, 19 percent worked as trainees in hotel and restaurants, 15 percent worked as trainees in manufacturing, 11 percent worked as trainees in education, and eight percent worked as trainees in wholesale and retail trade. The respondents revealed that the number of hours required for them to complete OJT ranged from 120 to 720 hours with an average of 300 hours. The respondents worked at an average of eight hours a day. A large percentage of the respondents (83%) did not receive any allowance from the job performed during OJT. The amount of OJT allowance received by 17 respondents in a month ranged from PhP500 to PhP3, 600 with an average PhP2, 233. Seventy-one percent of the employers never required their trainees to render overtime work. Of the 29 respondents who were asked to render overtime during their OJT, 59 percent received overtime pay. The amount of overtime pay received by 17 respondents per hour ranged from PhP75 to PhP300 with an average of PhP151 per hour. Fifty-three percent of the respondents believed that their work during OJT was moderately appropriate to their level of education while 37 percent assessed that their work during OJT was completely appropriate to their level of education. The computed mean of 1.73 suggests that, on the whole, the level of appropriateness of the respondents' work during their OJT to their level of education was moderately appropriate. The most common skills acquired by the respondents during their OJT were computer hands-on, customer service skills, telephoning, photocopying, and medical service and procedures. Most of the respondents were moderately satisfied with the characteristics of their professional situation in the OJT program as assessed in the content of work/professional tasks, working atmosphere, possibility to use qualifications acquired), possibility to work in demanding job, opportunity to benefit society, chances of realizing his/her own ideas), opportunity of pursuing further study, equipment of the workplace, workplace surrounding, and equal treatment of all employees. The respondents were dissatisfied with the allowance they receive or not provided to them. The problems encountered by the respondents during OJT were lack of allowance, high expenses incurred during OJT and distance of the company far from the residence of the respondent
