Abstract: VALES, CHRISTIAN JOSEPH A. Profile, Social Factors and Level of Commitment of Selected Altar Servers in the Diocese of Imus. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2010. Advser: Imelda R. Filart. The study was conducted in different parishes in the Diocese of Imus to determine the profile, social factors and level of commitment of altar server in the whole Diocese of Imus. Specifically, the study aimed to; described the profile of the respondents; identify the intervening social factors; identify the level of commitment of the respondents; determine whether the profile is dependent on level of commitment of the respondents; and ascertain if there is a significant relation between social factors and level of commitment of the respondent. A total of 100 altar servers, all are officers of the group were involved in this study. Frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, and percentage was used to present the profile of the respondents, the social factors they encountered and the level of commitment of the respondents. The Chi — square, t-test and Spearman Rank was used to determine if there is a significant relationship between the variable. Findings of the study revealed that officer altar servers are generally 15— 17 years old, serving from four .to six years, residing near to the church and still studying in public school. Most of the altar servers are committed to in serving but household chores, their hobbies, during their examinations and other responsibility were intervene their commitment to the church as they fulfill their need for belongingness considering their age 12 — 21 that they tend to explore more of their social life.. No significant relationships were found between profile and level of commitment of the altar server. On the other hand, only in three among the social factors such as household chores, sports and vices intervenes the level of commitment. Likewise, Family and peers have great factors and influence in making decisions commit and in the life of altar sever since they are considered as the significant people that will contribute in the enrichment of their life as a social being.
