Adviser: Nelia C. Cresino. A study was conducted to describe the socio-economic characteristics of the coffee farmers in Cavite and their family income and expenditures; ascertain the relationship between income and selected socio-economic characteristics and the relationship between income and household expenditures of the family; and the problems commonly encountered by the coffee farmers in allocating their income. A total of 121 respondents from three selected upland towns of Cavite, namely: Amadeo, Silang and Tagaytay were interviewed using the prepared questionnaire. Chi-Square test was used to determine the relationship between income and selected socio-economic characteristics. Regression analysis was used to determine the effect of household income on expenditures. The average age of the respondents was 46 years. Eighty-eight were male and 12 were female. One hundred percent of the respondents were married. Majority of the respondents were high school graduate and only two percent had no formal schooling. The average household size was seven and with four dependents. The average income of the respondents from coffee was P50,443.80 while the average monthly family income was P10,524. More than half of the respondents belonged to low income group. Eighty three percent of the respondents were considered as the major income earners. The average contribution of coffee farmers’ income to the family income was 42 percent. The family’s average per capita income was P1,683 monthly. The average monthly expenditure of the family was P4,629. Food and farm materials shared the largest percentage. The average monthly savings of the family was P5,895. The finding revealed that the selected variables such as age, sex and household size are not related to income. Family income was found to be significantly related to expenditures. The number one problem encountered by the respondents in allocating their income was the unstable prices of commodities.
