Abstract: MAGLABE, JULIE ANN M. AND SHERWIN JEFF A. SOSA. Design and Development of a Microcontroller-Based Card Operated Locker. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2006. Adviser: Mrs. Aileen V. Rocillo. The "Design and Development of a Microcontroller-Based Card Operated Locker" was conducted at Mendez, Cavite. The general objective of the study was to design, develop, and construct a system that would control the use of locker through a magnetic card. The whole system is composed of three main parts: the microcontroller (PIC 16F877) with the real time clock (DS1287) composed the control unit. The twenty characters by four lines Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) composed the output unit. The input unit were composed of the telephone keypad and the magnetic card. Assembly language was used in developing the system software. The PIC 16F877 was programmed to control the operation of the whole system. The microcontroller-based card operated locker provides safe and secured place for the belongings of the user. The user will use a magnetic card to be able to access the locker. A four-digit pin code is needed for security purpose. The card will expire within thirty days but a reloading system is included to regain access on the locker. The objective of the project was attained based on its performance during the testing and evaluation. During the one week evaluation, the students were able to use the locker for keeping their belongings without encountering any problem. This guarantees that students' belongings kept in the locker are safe and secured.
