Abstract: BARLAAN, JAHN MARIEL A.; STA MARIA, SHEILA MAE N. Reasons for Being an Out-of-School Youth, Social Comparison and Self-Concept of Selected Youth in Indang, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Joy N. Babaan, Rpm. Reasons for being an out-of-school youth, level of social comparison and self-concept of selected youth in Indang, Cavite was investigated in this study. The study specifically aimed to answer the reasons for being an out of school youth in terms of: a) financial; b) personal; c) family; and d) other reasons; the social comparison level of the participants; the level of self-concept of the out-of-school youths; the relationship between level of social comparison and level of self-concept; the relationship between reasons for being an out-of-school youth and social comparison level; and the relationship between reasons for being an out-of-school youth and level of self-concept. It was conducted in the municipality of Indang, Cavite from March to April 2017. It utilized the descriptive-correlation design using cluster sampling procedure. The questionnaires were administered to the out-of-school youths of Indang, Cavite. Results revealed that the reasons for being an out-of-school youth had 50% in financial, 21.3% in personal, ILI% in family and 17.6% in other reasons. The level of social comparison of the out-of-school youths resulted to an average use, and they had an average level of self-concept. The reasons for being an out-of-school youth had no effect on the social comparison and self-concept of the out-of-school youths. However, social comparison, specifically the upward social comparison, affect the out-of-school youths' self-concept. The upward social comparison had positive impact on the self-concept of the out-of-school youths in Indang, Cavite.
