Abstract: JACOBO II, ANTONIO S. Comparison of Selected Mass Communication Theories in McQuail’s Mass Communication Theory (4" edition) and in www.wikipedia.org, Undergraduate Thesis Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2010. Adviser: Ms. Bettina Joyce P. Ilagan. The study is a comparison of selected Mass Communication Theories in McQuail’s Mass Communication Theory (4% edition) and in www. wikipedia.org. It was conducted from November 2009 to March 2010 at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. To evaluate McQuail’s Mass Communication Theory (4" edition) and www.wikipedia.org, the researcher determined and analyzed their similarities and differences in terms of the proponents and premises of the selected Mass Communication theories presented in the two materials. The research design used was comparative content analysis. The researcher used purposive sampling to further analyze and determine the comparison of selected Mass Communication Theories in McQuail’s Mass Communication Theory (4" edition) and in www.wikipedia.org. Purposive sampling was employed in selecting the universe of texts for the study. The researcher used a thematic table to further discuss the selected Mass Communication Theories from two materials used. The study was conducted in Cavite State University-Main Campus from November 2009 to March 2010. Five out of six Mass Communication theories have similar proponents from two references named as Agenda-setting Theory, Cultivation Theory, and Information Theory, Media effects Theory, and Uses and Gratification Theory. The theories have its modified date with the complete web addressed to further justify its reliability. Moreover, the proponents from the selected Mass Communication Theories have different approach in discussing the theories. Results of premise in both materials, revealed similar findings when discussed the theories. Lastly, in both materials theories were well explained,analyzed and exemplified.
