Abstract: FAUSTINO, IZZA MAI A. Intercultural Competence of Selected College Students in Cavite State University. Undergraduate thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies, major in European Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2016. Adviser: Prof Adora Joy T. Plete. The study was conducted to determine the intercultural competence of international and selected local students of Cavite State University. Specifically, this study was carried out to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants; determine the level of intercultural competence of the participants as to very high, high, neither high nor low, low, and very low; determine the relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics and the level of intercultural competence of the participants; and compare the intercultural competence between international students and local students. The study was conducted at Cavite State University Indang, Cavite from November 2015 to January 2016. A total of 212 participants were included in this study using total population sampling for the international students (62) and quota sampling for the selected local students (150) of Cavite State University. The study used an adopted questionnaire to determine the level of intercultural competence of the participants. The respondents' age ranged from 14 to 59 years old with a mean age of 20 years. More than half (53%) of the respondents were male students. Among the 212 respondents from Cavite State University, 71 percent were local students and the 29 percent were foreign or international students. Results show that the participants had "high" level of intercultural competence. The level of intercultural competence was not significantly related with the socio- demographic characteristics of the participants. However in terms of sex, the study found out that it is significantly related with the level of intercultural competence. Study shows that there is no significant difference between the intercultural competence of international and local students. The study also found out that there is a significant difference between the interaction confidence of international and local students. Thus, the hypotheses of the study were both partially rejected.
