Abstract: ALCALA, DON RYAN C. Detection of Lectin from Different Species of Mushroom. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture major in Crop Protection, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2002. Adviser: Dr. Evelyn O. Singson. Eighteen mushroom species from different genera were screened for lectin activity. Six species were found positive for lectin activity. Among the six mushroom species, Polyporus sp. 2 had the highest titer value indicating the highest lectin activity. The lectin present in the crude extract of Polyporus sp. 2 was characterized based on blood group specificity, calcium dependency, temperature stability and sugar specificity. Lectin obtained from the crude extract of Polyporus sp. 2 was classified as non- blood group specific in human and animal blood samples, non-calcium dependent, non-sugar specific and has higher lectin activity at 300 C than at 40 C.
